Snake in the Rhapis; This critter slowly went from the ground, climbed up the Rhapis excelsa, into a Livistona chinensis and finely 30 feet up a Live Oak. Texas Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta lindheimeri) A snake with a variety of habitats, ranging from bayou and swampy country of western Louisiana and adjacent Texas, through woods and stream valleys, rocky canyons in western part of range. Range: W. Louisiana and E. half of Texas. They are good climbers and are constrictors, eating mice, rats and small birds. They vibrate their tails rapidly when alarmed.
