"My sister, Jenny (Mrs. Mauldin), wanted a
mural that was colorful and had a Caribbean feel. The house was
under construction at the time and full of workman(painters etc.).
They enjoyed watching the mural develop although I was a little
nervous with an audience. The work went fast with the house vacant.
The room was completed with a white washed oak table and 10 plain
ladder backed chairs." |

8'X9' Gulf Jewels was completed in January
of 1999 at the office of Dr.
Michael Mauldin, DDS, Portland, TX. |
"I volunteered to paint this mural for Dr. Mauldin (my
brother-in-law). He jumped at the idea of a mural for his patients
to view in his oratory. He gave me a free hand and with only
three request, a manta ray, an eel and a squid. In Aug. 98' I
started research on the internet and with local fisherman including
my husband, Charlie. After a month of painting on weekends I
realized I had made this project to detailed. During the week
I continued to research and do water colors of individual fish
to add to the mural. About midway through Dr. Mauldin thanked
me for adding the "Mermaid" which I had not realized
had taken shape in the distant reef.. At completion there were
11 dolphins, 15 red snapper, 16 yellow tail snapper, 2 look downs,
2 angle fish, 2 butterfly fish, 3 manta rays, 2 star fish, 3
sea horses, a moray eel (with asmile), squid, trigger fish and
crab. Dr. Mauldin was very satisfied and welcomed me back any
time to add to or extend it into other areas of the office."
