Paradise hides the palapa

"The Valley", as the area is locally called, just may be the most Latin flavored of any region in the United States. Spanish is spoken as readily as English. (I speak English and Spanish fluently. Tangerine just knows a little Spanish.) Anyway, traveling south or west from the valley, you cross the Rio Grande river into Mexico, east will take you to Gulf of Mexico, south Florida and Cuba. North is the only connection with the United States, and the United States is separated by massive ranches and vast areas of thickets and live oak. The ranches north of the area have been tended by vaqueros for centuries. North of this ranch land are the cities of San Antonio and Corpus Christi.

Is there any wonder why "the valley" is so influenced by Latin passions, music, customs, and foods? The valley is the land of fiestas, warm tropical nights, and romance. Life styles are relaxed, and recreation is served with gusto and accompanied with dancing, margaritas, limes, music, and, of course, macaws.
