Looking down a jungle path  True South Texas Beauty

Gardens, like my garden, become a large part of the festive way of life. Common desert species of plants from the Big Bend area of Texas are often referred to as the native plants in the region. But listen! Plants from Big Bend are 600 miles away. Plants from the tropics of Mexico are only 200 miles south. Many of the local humans come from deep into Mexico. They have brought with them their favorite plants; plants of which they are familiar; plants which they utilize for their medicine, and food; and they have brought their flowers that are symbols of their loves and which their ancestors have nurtured for centuries. These are the brilliant flowers and large leaves of the tropical areas from Tamaulipas and Veracruz. Many similarities are seen not only in the plants but in the animals as well. Common brush creatures include the javalina and the ocelot.
